Key skills for working with children, young people and families in Lancashire

This one-day course is designed for any professional working with children and their families in Lancashire and will support practitioners to further develop and enhance their knowledge and skills when approaching working with families. The programme will allow practitioners to consider the key skills required to ensure that providing support to families is effective and strength based, whilst also ensuring that professional boundaries are maintained. Some of the aspects explored throughout the day include communication skills, professional challenge, reflective practice and building resilience. The aims of the course are: • To provide an awareness of the issues professionals may experience that can impact on working effectively with families and how to manage these • To further develop an understanding of some key professional skills required to become a more confident practitioner when supporting children and their families, including: o Professional Boundaries o Building resilience and looking after our own wellbeing o Reflective practice o Difficult conversations and professional challenge o Unconscious Bias/Confirmation Bias o Awareness of power dynamics o Disguised compliance and working with resistant families o Professional curiosity
