Building Better Brains Training
Science tells us that the experiences we have in the first years of our lives affect the physical architecture of the developing brain. This means our brains are not just born, they are built over time based on our experiences. Our brains begin to develop just after conception and continue until we are around 24 years of age. The foundations we build during this time support us as we get older. If the foundations are not as solid as we would like we can change this by introducing supports.
The Brain Architecture Game is a tabletop game experience that builds understanding of the powerful role of experiences on early brain development – what promotes it, what derails it, with what consequences for society.
Using the resources developed by the University of Oxford as part of the Oxford Brain Story, this training will help you devise practical ways to support staff, children and families.
This session will cover:
- Playing the Brain Architecture Game
- Understanding the brain metaphors
- How Brain Architecture can be embedded across your school
Each establishment will receive a Brain Architecture Kit.
